“Depending on the distance between Wipha and the Pearl River [Delta], the intensity of Wipha and the change in local winds, the Observatory will consider issuing the gale or storm signal, No 8, in the small hours [on Sunday],” it said on Saturday.
The forecaster issued a No 3 typhoon signal at 2.20pm on Saturday, earlier saying it expected Wipha to continue to intensify and move towards the vicinity of the Pearl River Delta that day.
